NEFSA Reacts to Potential Executive Order: Protecting US Fishing Jobs in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of America

Statement from Aaron Williams, 3rd Generation Fisherman & NEFSA Board Member:

"NEFSA and fishermen are deeply concerned about Executive Order: 'Protecting US Fishing Jobs in the Atlantic Ocean and Gulf of America.' This order mirrors the ‘Forage Fish’ Bill, introduced by Democratic Rep. Huffman, which has caused unnecessary climate driven regulations on the fishing industry. Our fisheries are over-managed and over regulated, with quotas already allocated with significant caution. Fishermen see healthy stocks on the water, yet NOAA’s flawed assessments continue to paint a different picture.

If enacted, this executive order will jeopardize thousands of jobs in the fishing industry and coastal communities. We urge the administration to reject this unnecessary order and instead work with fishermen to strengthen both our coastal communities and sustainable management practices."
