NEFSA Founder & CEO Jerry Leeman III released the following statement:
“The New England Fishermen’s Stewardship Association (NEFSA) is pleased by reports that the GAO will investigate the effects of offshore wind development on the marine environment,” said NEFSA CEO Jerry Leeman.
“Fishermen are tired of being baselessly scapegoated for the recent surge of whale deaths. Our techniques have not changed. Industrial-scale wind farm surveys and construction work are the newest and biggest component of the marine ecosystem. And as NEFSA will show in the near future, there is a great and growing body of scholarly research identifying environmental hazards attending offshore wind.”
“NEFSA is ready and eager to speak with any GAO investigator who may wish to speak to us. We hope the GAO will break with its sister agencies and work collaboratively with fishermen.”
